Education Community Awards 2016 launched

An international education consultancy training service provider, the Neogenics Education, has launched an education award dubbed, “Education Community Awards 2016” (EDUCOM Awards 2016). On the theme, “Inspiring excellence in education delivery,” EDUCOM 2016 seeks to recognise 20 outstanding institutions, individuals and organisations in the educational sector, whose performance and activities have positively affected education.

Ministry to expand access to health services

The Ministry of Health is focusing on expanding access to vital health services for women and children, the sector Minister, Mr Alex Segbefia has announced. “Our national Health Insurance Scheme has made a concerted effort to support these vulnerable groups. Maternal health care services under the scheme are free.” “We have established an extensive basic benefits package, which covers 95 per cent of all health problems reported in Ghanaian health care facilities,” he told health experts gathered in Accra in a workshop to look at health financing.

Delayed teachers’ arrears, result of fake documents, others — GES

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has stated that the payment of the salary arrears of some category of teachers had delayed because some of them submitted fake documents and certificates to support their claims. It said out of 14,575 input forms that were initially submitted by teachers for processing and payment, only 6,268 were found to be attached with genuine supporting documents.

SMEs urged to brace for long-term funds

A team leader of Frontier Market Advisor, a business solution firm, Mr Dode Seidu, has advised small and medium scale enterprises (SMEs) in the country to properly position themselves to attract the needed funds to boost their businesses. He was of the view that there were funds available in the system to augment their business operations but noted that unless they opened up to outsiders who had the funds to partner them, the finance needed to keep them in business would continue to elude them.
